If you’ve been keeping up with our past two blogs in this series, you’ve learned all about what the Laster Perfect Smile system is, and about what happens at your initial consultation for your aligners. After waiting 4-6 weeks, you’ll receive your custom created LPS aligners, designed specifically by Dr. Laster. Now you’ll be able to start your journey to your ideal smile!
The Laster Perfect Smile Clear Aligners Experience
It takes 4-6 weeks for Dr. Laster and his team to create your clean aligners in Dr. Laster’s in-house lab using the specific design measurements from your 3D scan. Once the aligners are ready, you’ll visit Laster Orthodontics for your aligner fitting to make sure your perfect smile journey starts off on the right foot.
Aligner Fitting Appointment
At your initial aligner fitting appointment, Dr. Laster and his team will place invisible ‘buttons’ on your teeth which will help shift your bite quickly, but safely. The button installation is a quick and painless process. Small pieces of polymer material are bonded to your teeth, which are then polished to make them virtually invisible. The number and placement of buttons will vary for each specific case. Generally, most LPS cases will have 9 buttons in total, with 5 buttons on the upper teeth, and 4 on your lower teeth.
Once the buttons are in place, you’ll go through Laster Orthodontics aligner tutorial. Your chairside assistant will ensure that your aligners fit correctly, and will show you the correct way to put the aligners on and take them off. When you get your first set of aligners, they will fit snugly. Don’t be surprised if it takes a few tries to get them on, and if they feel a little tight at first. The LPS clear aligners will loosen over time, but the initial snug fit is important to initiate the movement of teeth.
Dr. Laster Aligner Fitting Seal of Approval
After your aligners are on, Dr. Laster will inspect the complete fit. Each patient’s mouth is different, so he may need to make minor adjustments to your aligners to ensure that they don’t pinch or rub your cheeks and gums. If there is a rough spot on the aligner, Dr. Laster can smooth out the area to prevent potential abrasion pain. Be sure to let Dr. Laster know if you are a teeth grinder! He will be able to make adjustments to the aligner plastic material to protect your teeth, similar to a nightguard.
The aligners are designed to gradually shift your teeth into the next position. These measured movements are incremental, so you’ll change out to a new aligner set every 2 weeks. The amount of movement your teeth need will decide how many aligner sets are needed to get your perfect smile. All smiles are unique, and the length of treatment is as unique as each patient’s smile.
On Your Way to Your Perfect Smile
Before you leave the Laster Orthodontics office, you will receive detailed instructions on how to take care of your aligners, which includes how to keep your aligners clean. You will also be given a goodie bag containing a retainer case in your choice of color, and your next 3 sets of aligners.
Proper supervision is imperative to ensure a healthy aligner experience that won’t harm your teeth and gums, which is common with at-home treatments like Smile Direct Club. This is why Dr. Laster encourages his LPS patients to keep up with their appointments. At your check-ups, Dr. Laster will check to make sure that your teeth are moving correctly, and that your gums are in healthy condition. If during your appointment Dr. Laster notices your teeth are shifting too fast, he can make easy tweaks to your aligners to keep you on your way to your perfect smile.
